Minutes of the July 26 & 27, 2007

CHURCHVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT
CHURCHVILLE, NEW YORK
THURSDAY, JULY 26,2007

President Forrest Skelton called the meeting to order at 9:00 am and welcomed everyone to Churchville.

Sergeant-at-Arms Don Trzepacz pointed the fire exits out to the membership. He then called in the colors and flag and led the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.

Chaplain John Totter gave the invocation.

Convention chairperson Beth Bennett welcomed everyone.

President Forrest Skelton introduced the following guests who came up and spoke and welcomed everyone to the convention.

Director of Public Safety for Monroe County Steve Bowman, Churchville Mayor Nancy Stevens,
Town of Riga Supervisor Pam Moore,
Churchville Fire Dept. Steve Gulvin, President
Churchville Fire Chief Tom Hetherington.

President Forrest Skelton introduced FASNY President Mike Wutz
He introduced the FASNY officers. He also spoke on moving in the home and museum.
A check was presented to Tom Mooney for the Firemenís home by President Forrest Skelton.
Tom Mooney introduced FASNY Trustees. He also spoke on moving into the home and museum.

First Vice President: Eric Bradshaw welcomed everyone

Second Vice President: Leo Grenier welcomed everyone.

Past President Andy Pilecki spoke on the FASNY Credit union.

Report of Recording Secretary Dave Flynn

Secretary Dave Flynn polled the Counties and read his report and a list of five year life members and 20 year fully paid life members.

A motion to approve was made by Ed Tase and seconded by Alan Way, Motion carried.

Report of Treasurer David Wolf:
He read his report on finances and bank accounts.
A motion to approve was made by Pete Frazon and seconded by Walter Lang. Motion carried.

Committee Reports

Report of Trustees Primo Biscaro
The audit was conducted and all was found to be in order.
A motion to approve was made by Leon Randall and seconded by Jack Hurlburt, Motion carried.

Report of convention committees Beth Bennett spoke on tours and seminars.
A motion to approve was made by Pete Martin and seconded by Alan Way, Motion carried.

Report of Nominations Committee Brad Chapman read the nominations and accepted nominations from floor
President Eric Bradshaw,no other nominations.
A motion to accept was made by Mike Wutz and seconded by Ken Fuller. Motion carried.

First Vice President Leo Grenier,no other nominations.
A motion to accept was made by Ken Fuller and seconded by Alan Way. Motion carried.

Second Vice President Marc Kasprzak, no other nominations.
A motion to accept was made by Pete Martin and seconded by Glen Wendt. Motion carried.

Secretary Dave Flynn declined, Tim Tyrrell was asked but declined.

Assistant Secretary Tim Tyrrell, no other nominations.
A motion to accept was made by Gerry Gehrig and seconded by Pete Frazon. Motion carried.
Treasurer David Wolf,no other nominations.
A motion to accept was made by Gerry Gehrig and seconded by Bill Busch. Motion carried.

Assistant Treasurer Tom McLaughlin was nominated. Tony Demarco nominated Ken Curry.

Nominations for trustees: Allegany County Wayne Butts, Cattaraugus County, nothing Chautauqua County, nothing -Erie County, nothing- Genesse County Kathy Wright, Livingston County, nothing, Monroe County Ken Fuller, Niagara County Harold Wollaber, Orleans County Ron Misener, Steuben County, nothing Ė Wyoming County Primo Biscaro.

Nominations will stay open until Friday for vacant Secretary and trustees positions.
A motion to hold an election at Churchville Fire hall from 10:00am to 12:00 noon Friday July 27, 2007 was made by Bill Busch and seconded by Bruce Isaman. Motion carried.

Bylaws Committee Bill Kershner
Three Bylaws were presented and read.

  • On parade prizes was read and there were questions on it
  • A motion to limit dues arrears to 2 years plus the current year. After that members will be removed from the membership rolls.
A change to the nominating procedures requiring a letter be submitted by the June meeting.

These will be voted on at Fridays meeting.

Report of legislative committee Bill Kershner thanked his committee.
Pete Casey spoke on the business of the legislature and laws.
A motion to accept was made by Pete Martin and seconded Pete Frazon. Motion Carried.

Parade Committee: by Jack Hurlburt
The parade is on Friday at 7:oo pm.
A motion to accept was made by Leon Randall and seconded by Ed Tase. Motion Carried.

Steering Committee: by Ray Emma
Letter have been sent to FASNY with the endorsements.
A motion to accept was made by Marc Kasprzak and seconded by Gerry Hendrickson. Motion Carried.

Bowling Committee: Marc Kasprzak
A report was given on the tournament.
A motion to accept was made by Bill Kershner and seconded by Pete Frazon. Motion Carried.

Queens Pageant Committee: By Sarah Eddy
Queen Heather Johnston was crowned at the kickoff dinner.
A motion to accept was made by Leon Randall and seconded by Primo Biscaro. Motion Carried.

President Participation Committee: Reported by Wayne Stanley
Asked everyone to please sign sheets at the events. He thanked his committee.
A motion to accept was made by Gerry Gehrig and seconded by Pete Martin. Motion Carried.

Nozzle Pratice Committee: by Doug Wright
All set for Friday.
A motion to accept was made by Bob Wilson and seconded by Pete FRazon. Motion Carried.

Budget and Progam Book Committee: by Bob Walker
There is a contract with a new fund raising Company. Bob wants to meet with the trustees.
A motion to accept was made by Pete Frazon and seconded by Ed Tase. Motion Carried.

Fire Prevention Committee: by Dave Schmidt
He spoke on The Fire Prevention Contests.
A motion to accept was made by Dan Evans and seconded by Pete Martin. Motion Carried.

History Committee: by Frank Wilczac
He spoke on the convention and convention history.
A motion to accept was made by Jack Hurlburt and seconded by Wayne Stanley. Motion Carried.

Public Relations Committee: by Stan MacWilliams
He talked on the importance of getting information for the FASNY magazine.
A motion to accept was made by Alan Way and seconded by Dan Evans. Motion Carried.

Scholarship Committee: by Tim Wolfanger
The winners were announced. He named donors to fund and thanked the Hann family. Mike Wutz gave a check from the FASNY ladies auxiliary to the fund.
A motion to accept was made by Gerry Gehrig and seconded by Pete Martin. Motion Carried.

Explorer/Junior Fire Fighters Committee: Report by

Topics Committee: by Don Gavenda
There Was no speaker scheduled. Many other events were taking place.
A motion to accept was made by Bob Wilson and seconded by Wayne Stanley. Motion Carried.

President Forrest Skelton Introduced the past presidents in attendance.

Chaplain John Totter spoke on the memorial service.

Dave Schmidt spoke on fire fighter games driving competition on Saturday at 8:00am

Mike Wutz spoke on alliance with Masons

Sergeant At Arms Don Trzepacz reported 103 in attendance

Minutes of the Friday July 27, 2007 Convention meeting

President Forrest Skelton called the meeting to order at 11:30hrs.

Sergeant at Arms Don Trzepacz pointed the fire exits out to the membership. He then led the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.

President Forrest Skelton opened with nominations for the position of Secretary
Ed Tase nominated Wendi Walker for secretary. This was seconded by Gary Hunt
Motion carried.

Fire Police report by Carl Meyers
Carl read Jeni Corserís report on expenses for pocket watches and trophy. He stated that the competition was to take place at the Churchville fire hall on July 28 at 9:00 am.
A motion to accept was made by Pete Frazon and seconded by Leon Randal. Motion Carried.

Fireman of The Year Report by Ken Fuller
There were 46 entries for fireman of the year. A joint mailing was done between the Fireman of the Year and Fire Police and this was successful.
A motion to accept was made by Primo Biscaro and seconded by Gerry Gehrig. Motion Carried.

Report of EMS by Wendi Walker
Three teams entered, Wilson took first place, Alexander second and Churchville third. They want to look into an EMS of the Year Award. Ken Fuller agreed and will look into it next year.
A motion to accept was made by Mike Delamere and seconded by Bill Busch. Motion Carried.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:

Bylaws by Bill Kershner

  • The bylaw on parade prizes was unanimously defeated.
  • The bylaw on dues was voted on and passed unanimously.
  • The bylaw on Nominations for office, after discussion, was voted down.

Report of Past President by Bruce Isaman
Eighteen Past Presidentís were at the dinner.
Jerry Buckenmeyer presented a check for 500 dollars to Norm Eberle for a room at the home.

NEW BUSINESS:

Resolutions by Mike Delamere

  • Resolution #1 to enter names of deceased in the proceedings. (See Necrology List for Memorial Service.)
    A motion to accept was made by Pete Frazon and seconded by Bill Kershner. Motion Carried.
  • Resolution #2 sincere thanks to all people involved in legislative, etc. programs.
    A motion to accept was made by Ed Tase and seconded by Mike Wutz. Motion Carried.
  • Resolution #3 thanks to all media for services to volunteer firefighters of Western New York.
    A motion to accept was made by Leon Randall and seconded by Gerry Gehrig. Motion Carried.
  • Resolution #4 endorse THE following candidates for FASNY, Brian McQueen, Paul Oehmler, Thomas Mckinney, Norman Eberle, Theodore Roscoe, Steven Klein.
    A motion to accept was made by Marc Kasprzak and seconded by Bill Busch. Motion Carried.
  • Resolution #5 extend a rising vote to all officers of Western New York Volunteer Firemenís Association.
    A motion to accept was made by Ken Fuller and seconded by Marc Kasprzak. Motion Carried.
  • Resolution #6 a rising ovation to the convention committee, Beth Bennett and Churchville Fire Company, the Village of Churchville and Town of Riga and all others involved in making the 108th annual convention a huge success.
    A motion to accept was made by Ken Fuller and seconded by Pete Frazon. Motion Carried.

2% Committee Jerry Buckenmeyer spoke on the Rule Books forum on Thursday at the State convention.
A motion to accept was made by Ken Fuller and seconded by Glen Wendt. Motion Carried.

Report of fire officers
FASNY President Mike Wutz spoke on up coming convention and other events.
A motion to accept was made by Ken Fuller and seconded by Bill Busch. Motion Carried.

Northern Central report Gerald Hendrickson January meeting will be held in Monroe County. 2008 convention will be June 13-14 in Yates. New president in Ray Emma.

South Western Report Larry Scoosek read up coming events and meetings.
A motion to accept was made by Bill Busch and seconded by Leon Randall. Motion Carried.

Report of Trustees by Primo Biscaro
The audit was done and is ok. Pete Casey announced that the read Trustee for Erie Co. is Bob Carncross, The trustee for Livingston Co. Gerry Gherig.

Mike Wutz spoke on doing internal audits in our organizations. Congratulated Wendi Walker on becoming secretary. Thanked the media for their help in the fire service.

Election results by Brad Chapman 94 votes were cast 78 Tom Mclaughlin, 16 Ken Curry. A Motion was made by Dave Wolf and seconded by Primo Biscaro to destroy the ballots. Motion carried.

Unfinished Business:
Ken Fuller said T-shirts are going to members of western in the home
Don Fox spoke on the museum at the home also on the budget for FASNY.
Howard Ayers spoke on how well run the convention was and stated a job well done by The committee. He talked on the explorer program.
Forrest Skelton read the guest list.

Selection of the 2008 convention 2008 Convention will be held in Albion, NY.
A motion to accept was made by Ken Fuller and seconded by Bob Walker. Motion Carried.

A motion to close meeting was made by Ken Fuller and seconded by Pete Martin.

Sergeant at Arms Don Trzepacz reported there were 77 members in attendance.
